Focus & Scopes
JESTEM welcomes original research papers from researchers, educators, lecturers, and university students who are primarily concerned with ethno-STEM topics in education. Review papers with insightful, integrative, and up-to-date progress on major topics are also welcome. Submission to JESTEM should align with the journal's scope, encompassing topics but not restricted to
Ethnomodelling
The research topic covers the area that combines ethnomathematics and mathematical modelling. The research idea and related topics can be traced to the works of Daniel Clark Orey.
Roles of ethnoSTEM in teaching and learning practices
Over the last few years, ethnomathematics, particularly in Indonesia, has been dominated by the explorative studies of mathematical concepts and activities on local culture products, with only a few practical applications in the context of teaching and learning. The primary focus of this research topic is to promote alternative approaches in STEM education that incorporate real-life contexts (from a socioculture perspective) while also addressing the challenges associated with their implementation.
Religious beliefs and values in mathematics
The scope emphasizes that teaching and learning mathematics extend beyond the subject itself, encompassing its relevance and connections to broader aspects of life such as religious beliefs, values, politics, etc. In particular, the interplay between these aspects, like religious beliefs and philosophical thought about values in mathematics, may shape teaching and learning scenario. The research idea on this topic can be traced to the works of Alan J. Bishop and Wee Tiong Seah.
